- You should buy a bed with the largest dimensions to the possible extent. Small mattress size may degrade your sleep quality.
- Mattress dimensions must be 20 cm larger than the person’s height with a width of 95-100 cm for single person use. Width must be minimum 150 cm for double mattresses.
- Mattress surface must ensure a perpendicular spine and must support the body at every point of the body.
- If possible, lie down and test your mattress before purchasing. You can do this test by trying your sleeping positions on the mattress.
- The spine must maintain its natural “s” shape during sleep. Firstly, the correct mattress must sustain the “s” shape of the body. Thus, it must support the body without leaving the waist, head, back and neck in the air.
- Make sure that your mattress is not hard. Hard mattresses cause unsupported areas between your body and the mattress. Furthermore, hard mattresses are not suitable for any sleeping positions.
- Your mattress must not be too soft. Soft mattresses that look comfortable do not support the spine and joints sufficiently.
- Never use your subsided and depressed beds.
- The material inside the mattress, the quality of fabric and the spring system are very important. Get information on these issues before purchase.
- If you are purchasing a spring mattress, it may cause aches on your body after a while if it does not have good protection over the springs even if it is a mattress with a good spring system. Make sure that there is a protective layer that prevents contact of the upper fabric material and body with the springs.
- Make sure that the bed base and bed frame are suitable for the mattress. Ensure that they are of the same dimensions to prevent slipping or protruding.
