I have a herniated disc / I have backache, what kind of a bed should i sleep on ?
Herniated disc and backache, which make life difficult, do not leave you alone during sleep either. Although, solution of this problem through medical treatment is the correct course of action, you can contribute to your health process by correct mattress selection. Generally, these types of patients are recommended to sleep on hard mattresses. Whether this hard mattress recommendation, made under influence of this habit of long years, solved the problem or not was under scrutiny for years. One of the many clinical studies in the recent years was carried out in Denmark. In this clinical study, which is of statistical importance, 160 patients, aged 18 to 60, with chronic backache of minimum 6 months were divided into 3 groups, who slept on different beds for 1 month. Patients in the first group slept on water beds, second group slept on a visco elastic mattress while the third one slept on a hard mattress. It was concluded in the study that the patients sleeping on hard beds had an increase in backache rather than a decrease.
Thus, the referral that a hard mattress is better is completely wrong. If you have back and neck ache, you should test and prefer a mattress that reduces the pressure of the body, maintains the existing “s” shape and supports your unsupported waist.
